Boxing as Self Defence
A great teacher once said "Under pressure we revert to what we know best" and in my own experience I know this now to be true so teaching lethal techniques that cannot be practised are unlikely to come out naturally in the heat of the situation. Also once our heart rate reaches 160 bpm fine motor skills desert us so performing complex manoeuvrers are not practical.
Therefore our self defence system aims to get in touch with our inner-caveman and tap into that survival instinct and there is nothing more primitive than making your hand into a rock and pounding the threat into submission and so boxing is our core and the Ultimate Fighting (UFC) no-rules competitions have shown that some takedown ,ground-fighting and kickboxing skills are necessary to round out our self-defence skills.
